
The Overhead lamp was used to illuminate the passages of magazines where an overhead lighting passage was provided, such as on the Spithead sea forts at Portsmouth. It was placed in a circular recess in the floor of the lighting passage so that the glass globe hung through into the passage beneath. The example above is missing the burner and glass.
