Fort Camden: Cork

Located on the west side of the harbour entrance, it was first fortified during the American war of Independence; remodelled during the Napoleonic period; used as a prison c1850-65; and remodelled again 1862 - c1874 first using contract but later military labour. Renamed Fort Meagher in 1938 and now owned by the Cork County Council it is  referred to as 'Camden Fort Meagher' by the group that is undertaking restoration.

Fort Carlisle: Cork

Located on the east side of the harbour entrance, Fort Carlisle was renamed Fort Davis in 1938.

It is owned by the Department of Defence.

Dunree Fort: Lough Swilly

Dunree Fort is located on the west side of the Inishowen peninsula.

Dunree Battery was added to Dunree Fort in 1895 for 2 x 4.7 inch QF guns below, and later 12 pounder QF and 2 x 6 inch guns in the battery above.

It is now a Military Museum.

Lenan Head Fort: Lough Swilly

Lenan Head Fort was recomended in 1891 for the defence of Lough Swilly to be armed with 1 x 9.2inch BL gun, two 9 or 10inch RML guns and 2 x 6pdr QF guns. In 1901 it was armed with 2 x 9.2-inch BL Mk I and 1 x 9.2-in BL Mk IV gun. Between 1909 and 1911 the guns were changed to 2 x Mark X. They were removed for scrap in the 1950s.

Rerrin Battery: Berehaven

Rerrin Battery was recommended at the eastern entrance to Berehaven in 1893 for 1x 9.2inch BL and 2 x 6inch BL guns.

It was completed by 1903 and disarmed after 1927.

Fort Templebreedy: Located on the coast south of Camden fort it was built 1904-1909 and dismantled in 1946.
It is now owned by the Department of Defence.
