Even the weather was kind to us, for a change.  ;D

Thats interesting Pete. I thought that there was not much left of this fort. All the information that I have is on the data sheet to be found on the Fortlog page.

I couldn't find anything in the fort logs David. No doubt I need to sober up and put my spec's on  ;D
Apparently HMS Ganges is soon to become a housing estate. There are various campaigns to save the mast (a part of which we found discarded in one of the Martello towers.), but none to save the fort, that I'm aware of. Once more, money kills history!  >:(

Pete Hi

I know this is a few years late! However when I first visited Shotley Battery it was about 90% complete. By my second visit someone had demolished the back of the Battery and then my last visit a couple of years ago the only thing left to look at were the magazines and a couple of buildings. The site was very overgrown. A very interesting site but as far as I know no one wants to save it? Bit much like Beacon Hill Battery in Essex.

Regards  Dave W

Hi Dave. It seems to be the same old story all round these days. Unless someone can make a profit, the fortifications are left to decay, or worse, demolished for housing. And let's not forget the plague of self righteous H&S "Officials" who have to protect us from these "Menaces" by destroying them. Early Saturday morning gripe over.  ::)
