Fort Burgoyne

Defending Dover: Fort Burgoyne
Special members' event Friday 8th May 2015
Built in the 1860s, Fort Burgoyne was one of the many Palmerston Forts constructed in the 19th century to defend coastal towns. The Fort's purpose here was to defend the high ground north of both Dover Castle and the Port of Dover.
Join expert guides from The Land Trust, the recent new owners of the property as they take you around this magnificent fort which has never been regularly open to the public.
Discover its history from when it was first constructed, to its uses in World War II and also hear about the exciting plans for its future. The tour will include access to inside areas of the Fort such as the casemate and rooms used as barrack accommodation for officers and soldiers can also be viewed.
Light refreshments of hot drinks and a slice of cake are included. This event has been graded as challenging access as there are uneven floors, low ceilings and tunnels on the tour route.
